Ghee Making... DIY

Ghee Making... DIY

Hi all!! I’m back again with another interesting yummy healthy food for your little ones...

When I was a kid... my mom used to feed me mostly ghee rice in my house... but when I used to have my food in my grandmas house... I would taste the same Ghee... at first I thought that it was a product of the same brand that both my mom and my grand mom used to buy in common...

But, to my surprise it was both homemade... and the taste would be exactly the same in both the places...

As I grew I started asking my mom for the recipe and hoped that one day I will be able to make exactly the same as my mom makes it...

And one day “ tada “... I made it... and I felt so happy and proud that it’s passed on to me... it tasted exactly the same... and my efforts paid off when my kids would eat the ghee mixed with rice... mixed with the chutney powders for it to go with our typical Indian breakfasts like Idli, dosa or even roti ( chapati )...

The method and ingredients are very simple...  but it has to be made with a lot of patience and of course concentration...

Ingredients...

  • 500ml Unsalted Butter...
  • Steel or non stick container...
  • Around 10 curry leaves... I will explain further ahead the need for curry leaves...

Method of Making Ghee...

  • Switch On the stove... keep it on lowest sim...
  • Put the 500ml unsalted butter into the container...
  • Keep it on the stove...
  • Keep stirring continuously...
  • The butter will melt and start turning into golden brown...
  • Be Careful while stirring cause as the butter turns liquid... it might start throwing out the water if present in the butter...
  • Then after the ghee turns golden brown... put the curry leaves into it... You will hear a sizzling sound...
  • Your ghee is ready... you might see some brown coloured residue... that’s fine... you may strain it and eat it...
  • Now Remove the container from the stove... cool it... and pour it into a glass bottle for storage...

It’s that easy and simple... but... definitely needs concentration... do not leave the butter melting and move away from your kitchen... cause if the butter melts and gets cooked more than required then the ghee will taste burnt which is not advisable to be eaten...

Hope, this blog helps you in improvising your healthy habits... this could be another addition to your daily healthy foods list for you and your family...
